all of the sounds in this post come from the museum of contemporary art in chicago.

Archigram: Experimental Architecture 1961-1974

the archigram exhibit is the main reason i went to the museum on this day. archigram (from architectural and telegram) was a collective of experimental architecture artists who designed alternative living structures and cities.
this voice and the cool sound that accompanies it came from a small television just inside the archigram exhibit at the mca. the clip i caught seems to capture the idea behind the archigrams themselves.

while i was looking at the different pieces in the archigram collection, i could hear several background noises; multimedia pieces within the exhibit, people shuffling around, someone laughing, someone walking, someone saying something like "stop it," and an eerie tune.

this noise was coming from a noise generator sitting next to a futuristic picnic/barbecue scene.

Gillian Wearing: Mass Observation

01/11/03 15:47 mp3 = 00:00:45

a video exhibit (2 into 1) of a mother speaking frankly of her children's attitudes and behaviours and the children speaking about their mother's. during the parts where the mother was speaking the child she was talking about was on the screen instead of her. the child's lips were synced to the mother's voice perfectly so that it appeared the child was talking using the mother's voice. given the subject matter of the soliloquys, the video was pretty disturbing. this sound clip is of the mother speaking of her son lawrence. from the video i gathered that lawrence was probably 8 to 12 years old.
