02/12/03 15:19anyone who has ever been near the old navy at state and washington will likely recognize the voice of this man. as long as i have worked downtown (3 years) he has stood outside at this location preaching the word of the lord. he tells smokers not to smoke, drinkers not to drink, and young people not to have sex outside of marriage. he has a powerful voice, which is helped tremendously not only by the amazing faith and dedication he possesses, but also by the microphone and amplifier he carries with him daily. he handed me a flier as i passed by. i took the time to read it a moment ago, and he is the Evangelist Samuel Chambers from the High Way Church of God at 2156 W. Van Buren. his pamphlet contains strong opinions about women such as this one, "This is all of God's work a woman must do. Bear children or be lost." after that part, i lost interest and quit reading. luckily all christian groups don't hold the same views on women.
while i was recording him there was a bus stopping to pick up passengers who were waiting at the nearby bus stop. the beeping of the bus and the microphone interference from the wind make an interesting backdrop for the message he repeats daily.
i'll likely record him again in the future and maybe take a picture. hopefully, it won't be as windy or i'll have some heavy-duty wind screens for my microphones.

The funniest thjng ever was, while waling down State, hearing him say,
"All the men, get yourself a woman of the Lord. Get yourself a girlfriend. "Cause if you don't get a girlfriend, you are a homo-sex-all."
I looked across at another guy, walking the same way, and we both broke out laughing.
