a random hammering noise, a person shuffling by, me sniffling a little due to the coldness of the day, a car driving past, and the blaring test emergency alarm that sounds the first tuesday of every month in chicago. it is almost amazing that as the siren comes to an end, things go on as usual.

strange. what sort of emergency is expected in chicago? (I like the guitar centre btw - reminds me of the band we had at school. I used to hate going to the guitar shop for new strings because everyone could play much better than me. or so it seemed)

supposedly if there is ever a tornado (or other emergency weather) these sirens will go off and everyone in the city will go to a safe area (not exactly sure where that is). i think (but could be wrong) the sirens were actually put up during the cold war and were supposed to go off in case of attack by the russians. i am not exactly sure what will happen if there is a tornado at ten in the morning on the first tuesday of the month, since that is when the sirens are tested. maybe they could play that guitar center clip through the loudspeakers that the sirens are hooked up to.

In San Francisco our air raid sirens go off every Tuesday at noon.

weird. i wonder if every city tests the sirens at the same time. noon in San Francisco is 10 am in Chicago.

Our air raid (tornado) sirens are tested the 2nd Tuesday of every month at noon. Pretty creepy if you ask me...especially, the winding down at the end.

I've lived in Oakland most of my life and I never knew San Francisco had air raid sirens that went off at all.

Our sirens go off on saturdays at noon.

It doesn't matter to Lorra when they're tested in Chicago. She swears she never heard them.

It's true--I have never heard an air raid siren go off, and I've lived all over this great and silent-at-ten-on-Tuesdays country of ours. I guess that since I won't have the luxury of an advance tornado warning, my only recourse is to just go live in the basement. Daylight...I'll miss you!
