04/01/03 listen 1           listen 2

the first sound (listen 1) is of a parent pushing their child on a swing in wicker park. i actually stopped in order to get a recording of a man yelling at the sky, but by the time i found a parking spot, he had finished having his say. this sound is a much nicer one anyway. the sound of a single swing in a park. screeching metal on metal usually wouldn't be a pleasant sound, but this particular sound brings back memories of childhood.

the second sound rudely interrupted me while i was recording and reminiscing about the sound of the swing. it is election time, time to elect our alderperson. tons of people were milling about, everyone had a sign on their person or on their car telling me to vote for Manny Flores. i wonder why they think i would vote for someone who obviously has no respect for the sound environment of a park. a red car with a loud speaker attached to the top announced this message to all within listening range (listen 2), and a truck following closely behind kept blowing an obnoxious airhorn. oh yeah, and who really goes to the poll and makes their decision on who to vote for based on a piece of paper they were just handed in the park or an announcement they just heard being heralded from a car.
