05/22/03 10:04 listen           look 1           look 2

my dog r-lo is a very vocal dog. he barks at everyone who passes by my window. he growls when i'm playing tug of war with his toy. he whimpers when he wants attention, and sometimes if he doesn't get playtime when he wants it, he will bark until he gets it. those vocal outbursts aren't so bad since it isn't like he's barking all the time or while i'm away from home. the sound that is the worst is this crazy monkey like noise he makes if i leave the house while it is raining outside. the noise can best be described as a cross between a monkey in heat and the retched scream an animal might make right as it is captured by a lion. this noise is loud and painful to listen to, so i haven't actually recorded it. there is one noise he doesn't regularly make though. he didn't, until recently, howl. at some point in the past year i either taught him how to howl or i figured out the noise that triggers him to howl. i make a little bird chirpy noise where i roll my tongue a little and he will howl. it's great fun and he seems to like it though he never does it unless i make the trigger noise. this recording is of me inducing r-lo to howl. the first picture is a poorly lit picture of r-lo and the second one (also poorly lit) is a picture of him howling.

I love the pavlovian reaction, but especially the chirpy noise!

Okay, so I've listened to this at least once a day. I think this is one of my favorites. Ijust might download it and use it as a voice-message on my phone. It just makes me smile all the tiem.
